Koto no ha no niwa: Garden of Words review

October 17, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Garden of Words is a beautiful short, only 47 minutes, anime from Makoto Shinkai. It is a film about rain and feet. The animation is simply stunning. The first few minutes of footage, from the opening credits through to the introduction of the characters is remarkable. The scene of a branch dipping into a lake […]

Short film: Half-Life – Raise the Bar

October 12, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This is a fan-made film inspired by Half-Life. The usual disclaimers apply; no affiliation, no copyright threat and the filmmakers would love it if the attack lawyers stayed at home. On the subject of staying at home; this is one day in which the workers at the Black Mesa Research Facility wished they had stayed […]

What if Monty Python and the Holy Grail had a modern trailer

September 14, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Let’s not go to Hollywood, it is a silly place. In this video Stéphane Bouley gives the comedy classic a modern trailer. It’s hard to watch this trailer and put together anything much that actually happened in the film. In fact, even though I know the original very well it’s hard to make the connection […]

First photo of Star-Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy

August 13, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This grainy low-res photo appears to be Star-Lord from the set of Guardians of the Galaxy. If you’re not familiar with the series – Star-Lord is one of the good guys. Star-Lord (real name: Petter Quill) will be played by Chris Pratt in the James Gunn directed Marvel superheroes in space movie. Zoe Saldana steps […]
