Waterdeep Setting and Roster Reduction
The game adapts the established Horrified rules to Waterdeep and the Undermountain. Players cooperate to manage a terror track and a dwindling monster deck while dodging attacks from four iconic beasts from the wider roleplaying games multiverse.
Geek Native’s review highlighted that the thematic integration extends to Perk cards featuring famous Faerûn personalities and a physical haversack bag for drawing item tokens. However, the review also identified a structural compromise. Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons ships with only four monsters, down from the six included in the original game. While the mechanical complexity of the Red Dragon encounter compensates for the lower monster count, the reduced £16.99 sale price removes much of the financial risk for players concerned about long-term replayability.
Franchise Compatibility
Players can mix and match monsters across different sets, as the rules remain compatible with other standalone releases like Horrified: Greek Monsters and World of Monsters. The box includes seven hero badges, three dice, and twenty monster tokens to track the changing board state.
