Callover Cover: Legenderry: Vampirella

January 6, 2016 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

I’ve no problem with Vampirella having more clothes on than normal. This version of the immortal heroine has gone all steampunk and David Avallone’s adventure is set in a neo-Victorian world of petticoats and airships. The cover artist is Joe Benitez. You can find the comic at Things From Another World or Comixology.

Superhero Week: Artist reimagines superheroines with practical costumes

July 1, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood 3 Comments

Geek Native once called this “drawing the impossible” back when we looked at Michael Lee Lunsford’s fully dressed superheroines. I like these additional designs from Lord Ingvard. He’s an illustrator who was experimenting with alternatives… but has found out that not everyone on the internet appreciates it. Amazingly, he’s been forced to offer apologies for […]

A review of Sharky: The boy demi-god

September 10, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Written by Dave Elliott and with art from Alex Horley there is utter madness with the graphic novel Sharky. Sharky is a teenage boy who can transform into the demi-god Sharky. Yes, at one point he shouts “Shazam” to try and engage the transformation. He can’t actually control it; it’s hormonal. The Shazam reference is […]

Drawing the impossible? Fully dressed Superheroines

March 27, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood 875 Comments

Artist Michael Lee Lunsford stresses that the goal of his redesign project is not to push some sort of moral code on to you. He says it’s an exercise in character design – do these superheroes feel the same to you even though their costumes are different? I take Mike’s point… he’s not pushing a […]

Pathfinder RPG becomes a comic book

January 4, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood 3 Comments

Paizo Publishing have granted Dynamite Entertainment a license to create and publish a Pathfinder comic book. As Paizo is quick to point out; Pathfinder is now tied with Dungeons & Dragons as the best-selling hobby RPG. It was first published in 2009. Dynamite is a little older, founded in 2004, it now has a range of […]

Vampirella finds a new home

March 17, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Dynamite Entertainment has acquired the rights to Vampirella. The vampire heroine leaves Harris Publications to join the likes of the Green Hornet, Zorro, Armies of Darkness and Red Sonja at Dynamite. As you’d expect of a vampire – Vampirella is quite old. The comic first appeared in 1969 with a black and white cover by […]
