DirecTV is Kryptonite, says superhero bashing DirecTV ad

January 13, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Okay, I get the ad – DirecTV is so cool that even superheroes would rather watch it than fight crime. Clever, huh? No. Not for this geek. This ad just tells me that DirecTV is something the world would be better off without. DirecTV is something we need to overcome, something we need to fear […]

Bulletstorm ad mocks Halo ad

January 12, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Cast your mind back to 2007. It was an era before we had Microsoft Kinect but we still had the Xbox and we still had Halo. In fact, Halo 3 was due out and Microsoft had put together a dramatic and take-me-seriously advert for the game. It was called Believe. Here’s a reminder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXeST0NMtic Keep […]

Nintendo’s Jedward ad scores high in “most irritating” poll

January 12, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

A poll carried out by Brand Republic’s Marketing magazine of TV adverts placed the Jedward ad from Nintendo among the most annoying ads of the year. The ad, produced by Karmarama, came in at 7th place just behind the Foxy Bing ad and just ahead of the Moonpig.com ad. Gocompare’s annoying opera singer ad series […]

The Asus SonicMaster – laptops march on fashion

January 6, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Mobile phones made the jump from being geek tech to being mega popular once they became fashionable. People who don’t normally care about tech care about their phone. I think there are a number of reasons for this. There’s the fact that people tend to get their phone out in public. There’s also the fact […]

Christmas comes early to 56 Sage Street

December 22, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

56 Sage Street is a free online game with a twist. In this case the twist is that’s actually provided by a bank. It’s an advergame but, in this instance, they manage to get the balance right. You feel like you’re playing a game rather than taking part in an advert. In 56 Sage Street […]

December 22, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

A post for PlayStation Move has been banned by the British Advertising Standards Authority. The regulator had recieved complaints that the poster was offensive and inappropriate for public display. The text on the post read; “Move into the fight £34.00 RRP! PlayStation move, the game is just the start…” but the picture showed someone about […]

December 14, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Thanks Japan! The DS has a zombie simulation game called Love Zombie. In the game you take control of an army of farmer zombies. Those evil humans stole the zombies “precious something” and now they want it back. It’s 8-bit meets a farming game meets zombie. What’s not to love about that? Here’s a trailer […]

Darth Vader walks with you: Galaxy S on Docomo

November 12, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This blog would be worse off without great ads from Japan. Starting with a Japanese ad is a good start, adding in sexy tech like the Samsung Galaxy S makes the post sound even more promising and when we can throw in some Darth Vader Star Wars. What do you think? I think I’d probably […]

Lego – right when it’s wrong

November 7, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This is a rather cool colletion of ads for Lego. They’ve been produced for Lego Russia but their local advertising agency Leo Burnett. Geek Native has written about Leo Burnett before. You see; there’s a Pokemon clip in which Leo Burnett is exposed as the devil. When James is played backwards the claim is made. […]
