Last chance to win Tera beta pass

January 12, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This is a teaser video from the TERA MMO RPG. What strikes me straight away is the quality of the graphics. MMOs tend to be much simplier than local games simply because they need to be. MMOs have to cope with much larger worlds and the processing demands of thousands of simultaneous players. TERA is […]

Phantasy Star Online 2 opening movie

December 24, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Sega have released the opening movie to Phantasy Star Online 2. Phantasy Star is a Japanese computer RPG with a proud history and fan base to match. That doesn’t mean the success of the online version is a sure-in, though. Just ask Square Enix about their Final Fantasy experiences.

Game of Thrones: Winter trailer

December 23, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

We’ve had teasers for Atlus’s forthcoming Game of Thrones computer RPG already – such as The Wall. This latest video from the studio is longer and is rather more of a trailer than a teaser. It’s simply called “Winter”. The trailer introduces the game, planting the action firmly in the drama we already know and […]

Game of Thrones: The Wall

December 22, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This trailer is from the Game of Thrones computer game from Atlus. You’ll recognise the voice actors and computer models if you’ve seen the TV series (or are just good at spotting actors). Okay, it’s short but it sets the scene….. The game is due out for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 sometime […]

How politics works in the TERA MMORPG

December 22, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

I’m a big fan of politics in RPGs. In some settings it’s the politics that make the game for me. Back with the other internet dinosaurs and when I had time I used to play a lot on MUSHes. This wasn’t because I was writer. As you can tell – I’m not. This was because […]

Runes of Magic joins Score for More

December 15, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Score for More is a clever idea! Gamers can qualify for beta tests to games, special events, extra in-game items or personalised bonus cards simply by playing their favourite game and registering at Score For More. This in addition to the usual XP and loot that the usual game play brings about. There’s a wiggle, […]

Is there a touch of Dune in Mass Effect 3: Against All Odds?

December 13, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood 1 Comment

The latest Mass Effect 3 trailer reminds me, in part, of Dune. The situation seems clear. Shepard and team have to get across a battlefield in order to reach a tower. There’s just a whole host of Reaper action between him and his goal. That includes a giant walking machine of laser beam doom. “Against […]
