I think it’s been about 7 years since the last ElfQuest. You may well have fond memories of the title. Now there’s a new series with the title “Elfquest: The Final Quest.” It’s out now. You can grab a copy at sites like TFAW or via the Dark Horse app. Issue one is full colour […]

Mail Order Comics has liabilities of $969,101 and assets of $43,790 so it’s filed for bankruptcy in a federal American court. The company’s assets include 250,000 comics worth 10c and 1,500 graphic novels worth five bucks each. The company had AdanceMe among its lenders, a last-resort, high-interest option. Too sexy to sell – the Powerpuff Girls

January 26, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

We see the Powerpuff Girls on Geek Native now and then. Only recently we had this Powerpuff Cornetto Trilogy. Why? The girls are part of geek culture. What do you make of this IDW comic cover? Comic retailer Dennis Barger Jr didn’t like it. He wrote on Facebook; Are we seriously sexualizing pre-teen girls like […]

DC’s New 52 turned steampunk wonderful

January 23, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

It’s been expected for a while but this February DC will do steampunk variant covers of many of their New 52 titles. As it happens comic book super site Comic Book Resources were given an exclusive peak at some of the designs. They’re too good not to share.             […]

My argument: Black Panther deserves to be favourite

January 10, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

There’s a TV ad running in the UK for a subscription to a graphic novel collection called “Marvel’s Mightiest Heroes”. If you’re in the UK and had the tellybox on you may well have seen it. It’s one of those deals where you pay a little for the first book, unlock a bunch of goodies […]

Find out why Superheroes wear underwear on the outside

December 31, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This video from “Today I found out” digs into the history of superhero costumes and why early superheroes seemed to be wearing their underwear on the outside. If you like asking “Why” (and many wise geeks do). The script from the video is actually an excerpt from The Wise Book of Whys.

Art Noise: A review of One Model Nation

December 30, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

One Model Nation has sat in my to-review pile for a while; too long, according to my notes. To be honest the promise of historical events blended in with fiction wrapped together with an art noise band as the focus of the story had a fight to win my attention. That said; there are two […]

A Civil Armageddon: Steed and Mrs Peel review

December 26, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Josh Whedon’s The Avengers never made the cinema in the UK. The movie people did their market research and concluded the name was taken. Releasing the super hero meets super spy film without changing the name would confuse people. The official UK title was The Avengers Assemble. Mark Waid reminds us why Steed and Mrs […]

National pride: A review of Saltire

December 15, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Diamonsteel Comics introduce Saltire as Scotland’s first superhero and given the red headed, beardy chap with big boots and blue skin it seems pretty clear to me which nation he represents. Like many national pride issues; Saltire looks backwards in history and to about 125 AD when the Roman Empire had control of much of […]

Wizards without Coats: Furry

December 12, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Not really an insult, though.   < PreviousWizards without Coats[The End] Rakshasa or whatever, he’s still a furry. This is the last in the current series of Wizards without Coats. As it turns out, it could also be the first in a new series of Famous Last Words. The Rakshasa isn’t a demon lord one […]
