Independent developer Pixel Games LLC launched the “Season of Screams” autumn content update for its persistent 2D pixel-art MMORPG Fantasy Online 2 on Saturday 10 October 2026. Running through 5 December 2026 UTC, the live event reopens the Haunted Forest and Ghoulish Graveyard zones, introduces salvage smelter mechanics in New Crab City, and adds community localisations in French, German, and Indonesian.
Solo creator Jeromy Stroh developed the cross-platform title to run on his proprietary PxEngine, maintaining persistent character data and economic progression across Android, desktop browsers, and Steam clients for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The studio operates out of Spokane, Washington, where the autumn launch coincided with the Inland Northwest’s regional pop-culture gatherings.
Returning zones and recycling mechanics
The update introduces high-level seasonal map access alongside economic sinks designed to repurpose surplus equipment. Players can access the Haunted Forest starting at level 35 by speaking with event non-player characters stationed in Mirabella Cove or New Crab City. Those venturing deeper into the Ghoulish Graveyard will encounter reworked debuffs, updated enemy encounter pools, and refreshed quest objectives. A second tier of seasonal content, Bonko’s Carnival, unlocks on 17 October 2026 UTC via a cursed mirror in the graveyard for characters above level 90.
To address inventory bloat from monster drops, the patch establishes a Smelter and Salvage Forge in southern New Crab City. Players can break down surplus armour and weaponry into raw Salvage, which is then forged into Gemstones and Plates for item enhancement.

Jeromy Stroh, solo developer at Pixel Games LLC, said in a statement:
“Our persistent 2D pixel MMO brings back Haunted Forest and Ghoulish Graveyard, with seasonal quests and rewards. A new smelter turns unwanted loot into Salvage for crafting Gemstones and Plates. Players can return to the same character and progress across Android and Steam.”
Balancing solo operations and platform parity
Maintaining a persistent online roleplaying game single-handedly carries significant operational hurdles. Stroh originally built the browser-based Fantasy Online in 2010, which closed in January 2014 when server hosting costs outpaced ad revenue. Fantasy Online 2 relies on edge-routed game servers, multi-language client synchronisation, and a strict asset policy: all art, music, and sound effects remain human-created, while machine assistance is confined strictly to coding routines.
Economic disparity presents another challenge across the shared game world. Desktop players buy into Steam Early Access for £8.50, while mobile users on Android download the game for free with optional microtransactions and Battle Passes. Both groups inhabit the same live servers and trade on identical player-driven markets. Furthermore, full ecosystem reach remains gated: while Android and desktop builds are live, iOS testing is limited to Apple TestFlight, with no public App Store release.
Players can play Fantasy Online 2 via Steam or download the mobile client on Google Play.
