Free League Publishing has launched Invincible – Superhero Roleplaying worldwide today, 30 July 2026, coinciding with the opening of Gen Con 2026 in Indianapolis. Based on the comic book series by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley, as well as the animated adaptation on Prime Video, the game is available in hobby stores, digitally via DriveThruRPG, and directly through the publisher’s webshop.

To support the retail rollout, professional digital table platform StartPlaying.games is already offering active Invincible – Superhero Roleplaying sessions. Over 100 professional Gamemasters received early access to the game rules, establishing learn-to-play one-shots and new campaign tables for players wanting to jump straight into the action on launch day.
First-party digital tools with Free League Unbound
Alongside the retail release, the Swedish publisher unveiled Free League Unbound, a first-party digital web platform built to host official compendia and searchable rules. Developed in collaboration with Adam Bradford, co-creator of Free League Unbound and founder of D&D Beyond, the Early Access release provides digital readers across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
The platform launches with rules compendia for four core game lines: Invincible – Superhero Roleplaying, ALIEN: The Roleplaying Game Evolved Edition, Coriolis: The Great Dark, and The One Ring. Interactive character generation and character sheet management tools are scheduled to join the platform later in 2026.
Adam Bradford, Free League Unbound co-creator at Free League, said in a statement,
The impact digital tools have had on tabletop roleplaying over the past few years is unmistakable—for longtime players and newcomers alike, both at the table and between sessions. I can’t wait for fans to have tools that reflect the unparalleled passion and quality Free League brings to every one of their games.”
While Free League Unbound serves as a dedicated digital reader, Free League will continue supporting third-party virtual tabletop platforms including Roll20 and Foundry VTT.
Adapting Skybound’s comic universe to the Year Zero Engine
Invincible – Superhero Roleplaying adapts Free League’s Year Zero Engine to handle high-powered comic action. Players can construct original heroes across varying power levels or select pregenerated characters to protect their city, balancing personal relationships alongside combat duties and tough moral choices.
The launch product lineup includes:
- Core Rulebook: Complete rules for hero creation, solo play in “Crisis Mode”, GM guidelines, close to 70 distinct superpowers, and character statistics for over 60 figures from the Invincible universe.
- Starter Set: An entry box containing six pregenerated heroes (including Invincible, Atom Eve, Rex Splode, and Monster Girl), custom dice, cardboard tokens, maps, and the introductory story Metro Mayhem.
- Gamemaster Screen: A deluxe four-panel screen featuring franchise artwork and reference tables.
- Accessories: A standalone ten-piece engraved dice set and a reference deck of Power Cards covering all powers from the core rules.
Gen Con 2026 attendees visiting Booth #2449 in Indianapolis can also pick up a physical copy of Superhero Season, an exclusive two-hour convention story centred on a widespread bounty placed on the player characters.
