Publisher White Wolf announced Vampire: The Masquerade 6th Edition on 30 July 2026 during “The Future of White Wolf” panel at Gen Con in Indianapolis. The upcoming title marks the debut project for World of Darkness Creative Director Jess Lanzillo. Development is now underway in-house following the brand’s return to White Wolf in 2025, moving away from previous external licensing arrangements.

A free open alpha playtest is available immediately on Demiplane, giving players early access to seven of the planned fourteen vampire clans. Lead Game Designer Diogo Nogueira designed the new rules to streamline table play while preserving the gothic horror atmosphere of the classic tabletop roleplaying game. White Wolf aims to gather direct player feedback throughout the open playtest to shape the final book releases.
Core Systems and Player Tools
The revised rules merge Vitae, Willpower, and Health into a single resource pool to simplify record-keeping during sessions. Difficulty checks now subtract dice directly from a player’s pool rather than raising target numbers, and players roll almost all dice at the table. Physical and social conflicts now use a single unified procedure.
A new Beast and Nature Tracker works alongside a revised Humanity Scale to make the inner struggle between human morality and predatory instincts an active part of play. Players gain Quickening on exceptional rolls, while Storytellers gain Drama to introduce sudden complications, raise threats to the Masquerade, or empower non-player characters.
Character creation centres on lifepaths, natures, clan traits, and merits. Discipline powers scale with dot ratings and focus on active powers during scenes. The game also introduces “Devil’s Bargains” and “Choose Your Pain” mechanics to give players direct input over failure outcomes, alongside explicit TTRPG Safety Toolkit guidance and a level-based building system for non-player characters.
Jess Lanzillo, World of Darkness Creative Director at White Wolf, said in a statement:
We’re finally able to unveil that we’re working on Vampire: The Masquerade 6th Edition, and that we have a strong creative vision guiding us. Never before have we been able to bring the community into a Vampire: The Masquerade project at such an early stage, and we’re confident that will help us build a line of V6 books that speaks to both new and longtime players.”
Diogo Nogueira, Lead Game Designer at White Wolf, said in a statement:
With Vampire: The Masquerade 6th Edition, players get a faster engine that still keeps the things Vampire: The Masquerade veterans love, while removing friction. There’s less book-flipping, quicker NPC creation, and more mechanics that support the tension at the table. The new Nature/Beast Tracker especially creates that push-and-pull that reinforces the tone of Vampire: The Masquerade.”
