James Eck and Mind Weave take advantage of a little known feature of DriveThruRPG to sell functioning bits of software.
Mind Weave might best be known for this Rotating Labyrinth puzzle, which costs less than $1, but offer this Scroll Puzzle Generator too.
The scroll puzzle uses JavaScript and HTML, works best of Chrome and needs you to have files in the right place on your hard drive. Once everything is lined up, you feed the web page images you want to turn into a puzzle, including the background decoration elements. It produces a point-and-click web page for your players to interact with.
The Treasure Map variant is a Pay What You Want version that comes preloaded with a map from James’ own campaign and descriptions of unusual places marked on the map.
However, James points out that the map may be a terrible fit for your game, and you’d be better off using the general scroll puzzle generator.
The scroll puzzle is a good fit for treasure maps as players reveal the map by solving the mystery.
