September 28, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

“When Gandalf is vanquished, the text is ‘He fell beyond time and memory’. We puzzled about how you put that on film.” – director John Boorman on his proposed adaptation The Beatles wanted to do a Lord of the Rings movie and John Boorman was the director who was going to wrestle with it. In […]

Alien – The Illustrated Story review

September 23, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Frank Miller said of this book; “Alien – The Illustrated Story might just be the only successful movie adaptation ever done in comics. It’s an amazing graphic novel.” You may disagree with Miller but the comment shows just how good this graphic novel is. Alien – The Illustrated Story is an old one; the original […]

What do the aliens in Prometheus look like? [pictures]

May 15, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood 1 Comment

The latest trailer for Prometheus gives us the best glimpses of the aliens yet. It’s fair to say you’ll see a lot of overlap with classic Alien horror and design. This is an official trailer, not a leak, but still be cautious about watching it or reading any further if you’re worried about spoilers. The […]

Alien: The Easter Edition

April 8, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

There’s the strong feeling that this John Seaward (The Inbetweeners) video was inspired by the forthcoming Prometheus movie. That said, the YouTube credits not that any similarity of characters and events in this video to Ridley Scott’s Alien are entirely coincidental and unintended. Sure they are, sure they are.

Alien art in London

April 6, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood 2 Comments

Drawing inspiration from Alien and encouraged by the Prometheus movie that’s on its way artists have treated Great Eastern Street in London with some impressive alien visuals. In a blog post the art company, End of the Line, explain the painting is done in the Samurai Painting style, one that puts the focus on movement […]

Ride the Xenomorph

March 19, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Built from scrap in a Bangkok garage by Roongrojna Sangwongprisarn, the alien motorcycle, actually goes. Sangwongprisarn has four shops, called Ko Art Shop, from which he sells his fantatic creation. If you’re rich enough he also exports them around the world. If you’re brave enough you could actually ride this thing. Via Design You Trust.

This is the sound at the end of the Prometheus trailer

March 18, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood 3 Comments

The web is abuzz for the trailer of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. The film started life as a prequel to Alien. That notion was then dismissed and denied by 20th Century Fox. Then it became a film in the same universe as Alien – sharing “strands of Alien’s DNA”. Certainly, when you watch the Prometheus trailer […]

Aliens on Ice

November 25, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

I think this proves there is life in the franchise yet. I’m talking about Alien and Aliens but not Prometheus. If you’re not tracking then Prometheus is the “yes it is” and “no it is not” Alien prequel. This video, however, is clearly Aliens. It’s Aliens on Ice.

Trailer from Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood

December 16, 2009 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Ridley Scott‘s Robin Hood gives me cause for hope. It looks dark. It looks gritty. It looks a million miles away from the BBC utterly awful Robin Hood series. That said; it does Russell Crowe in it so it may still be annoying – hopefully Mr Scott can channel Gladiator‘s spirit and make Crowe behave. […]
