Want You Gone ft. Peter Hollens and Joe Penna

October 10, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Joe Penna, aka Mystery Guitar Man invited Peter Hollens over to his YouTube channel to cover the ending track from Portal 2. The result is a mashup of Hollens’ vocals, Penna’s guitar and some Portal gun effects mucking around with the grid screen video you tend to get with cappellas.

A Doug Rattmann movie – Aperture: Lab Ratt

April 1, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Doug Rattmann, aka Ratman, is an interesting character from Portal mythos. He helped save Chell. Rattmann was a scientist for Aperture and worked on the project – although it’s believed he never worked directly on GLADoS and, in fact, argued against trusting her. He is the one responsible for “The cake is a lie” warning. […]

This Is Aperture

January 29, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

If you’ve seen The Nightmare Before Christmas then you’ll recall the This is Halloween song. If not; it’s time to watch it. This remake – This is Aperture – has zoomed over the half a million views mark and only popped online a few days ago. When I say “remake” I mean Portal 2-ification of […]

Sadly, the plush Portal 2 turret won’t make Christmas

October 22, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Aww. Double aww. The first aww is because this deadly warrior is so cute. This mechanical killer is perfect for cuddling and playing with. That’s right; you will soon be able to buy your very own 14.5″ Portal 2 turret. The second aww is because you’re unlikely to get this for Christmas (that the shopping […]

Cheeky Wheatley Puppet

August 10, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Wheatley is one of the stars of Portal 2. He’s cheeky. He has a strange charisma. He’s a round robot with a glowing blue eye – well, eye-like thing. Furin Cosplay took a large lump of florist foam and made a fantastic Wheatley puppet. You can read about it all in a fantastic blog post […]

Where are the Mantis Men in Portal 2

July 10, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

There was a time before Portal 2. In that time we only had Portal and teasers from Portal 2. Sometimes we had leak-style teasers; like when someone managed to film a bit of a pre-release Portal 2. That happened with Cave Johnson versus the Mantis Men. It sounded like there would be Mantis Men. So, […]

Want You Gone: Fan made Portal 2 music video rocks

July 6, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

I’m a big fan of the Ellen McLain and Jonathan Coulton partnership in Portal and Portal 2. I’ll admit that Want You Gone is my second favourite of the two ending songs but it’s still pretty good. It’s actually pretty hard to find samples of Ellen McLain’s opera singing – yes, the voice of GLaDOS […]

Ellen McLain’s music: GLaDOS sings

June 10, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

The voice of GLaDOS in Portal and Portal II is Ellen McLain. While not being awesome as a voice actor in Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2 or Portal, Ellen McLain is an opera singer. I’ve not found it easy to dig up samples of Ellen McLain singing. I’m sure people search for McLain’s music but […]
