John Carter / Edgar Rice Burroughs tribute art print

January 10, 2018 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

John Carter of Mars is all the rage again thanks to Modiphius’ Kickstarter. That’s straight-forward. Less straight-forward is whether it’s possible to be John Carter or even an Edgar Rice Burroughs geekfan with models, art and merch given the tendency of the heroes to wear very little clothes… I think ‘PaladinFreelance’ has the solution. Their […]

Modiphius Entertainment‘s latest Kickstarter project is ‘John Carter of Mars: Adventures on The Dying World of Barsoom’. Sword and planet: A review of Kane of Old Mars

April 8, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

I’ve seen John Carter of Mars but not read any of the Edgar Rice Burroughs stories. I had the famous title in mind as I started to read the most recent re-release by Gollancz of Michael Moorcock’s “Kane of Old Mars”. Wikipedia tells me that the trilogy was first published back in 1965. The original […]

John Carter trailers

December 1, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

More John Carter goodies out today. We’ve seen a picture of the great white apes of Mars before and with this trailer we get to see one in action. More than that; we get a good feel for the film. I suspect we geeks will have to remind people that John Carter of Mars was […]

We’ve already had the impressive and scary looking white ape picture from Andrew Stanton’s John Carter. Now we get six more pictures and they include some quirky looking aliens and creatures. The John Carter movie, based on the classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, is due out in the first half of 2012.

John Carter: The White Apes of Mars

November 24, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

I’m really looking forward to the John Carter movie. I’m behind in my John Carter lore (heck: I should add some of the lit to my Christmas wishlists) so the movie will act as a great catch up for me. It’s also Pixar’s first live action. Not only that; director Andrew Stanton was the directional […]
