Space Dandy trailer

December 2, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Well. This is colourful. This is Shinichiro Watanabe’s latest project. He’s the talent behind Cowboy Bebop and, if you ask me, he takes what Bebop hinted at and goes to town with it in Space Dandy. Even the name, allowing for translation, is bold. There’s a host of talent involved too; Akira’s creator Katsuhiro Otomo […]

Haunted by the past: A review of Penguindrum part 2

November 29, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

I began my review of Penguindrum part 1 by saying that I suspected labelling the series as a cute, fluffy, romance with a touch of angst anime was a mistake. Oh boy. Was it a mistake. In my defence, in the same review I said the plot, drama and tension was escalating quickly. By the […]

Don’t miss the deleted scene from The Day of the Doctor

November 24, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

The BBC have released a deleted scene from The Day of the Doctor. We find the War Doctor stuck with 10 and 11 as they debate what’s cool and what’s shoe. Some people think the War Doctor reflects “Classic Who” in that he doesn’t put up with many of the antics that the new Doctors […]

Doctor Who: First trailer for Christmas Special – Trenzalore

November 24, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Have you asked yourself What is Trenzalore? You’re not alone and many more will soon be asking the the same. Check out the first trailer for the 2013 Doctor Who Christmas trailer. Trenazlore is where the Doctor dies. Myth? Perhaps – but in the Name of the Doctor we do seem to see the Doctor’s […]

Ghost in the Shell: Arise – web episode

November 20, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

I’ve been lucky enough to see some Ghost in the Shell: Arise and review GitS: Arise – Pain. This, though, is new. Ghost Whispers is a web episode to promote Kokaku-JPRS.jp. Logicoma fan? Good news. There’s three of them in this web episode and that’s a threefold increase from the one in Pain.

David Tennant in the weirdest The Day of the Doctor video yet

November 19, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

It’s not normal to see videos like this up on the official BBC YouTube channel. Strange, weird and quirky as it is – it’s hard not to watch. We might suspect that this was filmed for a laugh and then published because a) why not and b) British humour. I approve. Do you? Is now […]

Are penguins cute or creepy? A review of Penguindrum

November 17, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

I made the mistake of dismissing the whole of Penguindrum based on the first episode. I should know better. After all, one of the many reasons to love intelligent anime is its ability to dramatically and suddenly change direction. I initially dismissed Penguindrum as something made to appeal to a fluffy, pink and teenage audience. […]
