Goblin Slayer was one of the most talked-about and popular animes of last year. It has a brutal beginning, absolutely not to everyone’s tastes but precisely the sort of opening that gets a show attention.
Goblin Slayer: Goblin’s Crown is a special episode of the show that’s due out in theatres in Japan in February. The latest trailer shows us a few new scenes.
The speculation is that the anime is based on volume 5 of the light novel. Yen Press, who have the English language license for that, describe that part of the story like this:
A young noblewoman has disappeared while out on a goblin hunting quest. When Goblin Slayer and his party set out to find her, they are stunned to discover a horde of goblins have built their nest within an ancient dwarven fortress… and these ones even appear to be followers of some primitive, sadistic cult! But what troubles Goblin Slayer most of all is their leader, who is stronger and more intelligent than any goblin he’s faced before…
There certainly does seem to be a new character in the trailers – that of the Noble Fencer. We don’t know.
We don’t even know whether there will be an English subtitle or license deal arrange for this theatrical release. Given the popularity of the original, it seems likely – unless buyers decide the special edition is too extreme for Western tastes or import rules.
