We’ve heard about a ton of new developments from Cubicle 7 in the last few weeks. They grabbed Wrath & Glory, talked about Soulbound, Warhammer FRPG 4e, Lord of the Rings RPG 2e, Doctor Who RPG 2e and even which of them might be coming to a virtual tabletop near you.
That’s a heck of a lot for any publisher to be working on. Needless to say, it means some titles have to wait their turn, and at UK Games Expo Cubicle 7 revealed one of their titles at the back of the line is The Laundry RPG.
The Laundry RPG is based on Charles Stross’ novel series and is a mix of X-Files meets Lovecraft. Players are agents in a British secret service struggling to prevent otherworldy horrors from gaining access to Earth and taking over.
Cubicle 7 boss Dominic McDowall-Thomas explained to The Laundry RPG fans at a seminar held at UK Games Expo the additional complication Chaosium. The somewhat-Cthulhu-themed The Laundry RPG makes use of a license Cubicle 7 had with the Call of Cthulhu publisher when it was first published. That license is no longer in place. To do a revised The Laundry RPG then Cubicle 7 would need to either re-establish a license with Chaosium or bring a new set of mechanics to the game. The latter option would make the previous sourcebooks and expansions more or less obsolete.
Cubicle 7 say they’ve not given up on The Laundry RPG. It’s just it will be a few years before they can cycle back around to it.

By the time that they “get back around” to The Laundry RPG, I may have just shelved their entire line and found another system in which to run the setting.
