Warsaw-based developer Hexy Studio has launched a Kickstarter campaign for Misbehave, a pair of fantasy adventure gamebooks tailored for solo adventuring and competitive two-player roleplaying games. The project has raised £10,758 from 377 backers, clearing its initial £3,430 funding target by more than triple within its first two weeks.
The campaign introduces a twin-volume format featuring Misbehave and GNOMO. Instead of dispatching righteous adventurers into dark corridors to slaughter monsters, the system puts players in the role of the creatures defending their homes from invading parties. While both books work as standalone solo adventures, players can also combine them for head-to-head sessions where two players contest objectives across the same territory.
Teeth, Hats, and Hex Navigation
Geek Native reviewed the early prototype back in February, testing how designer Wojciech Rosiński and illustrator Jacek Kuziemski stripped back standard roleplaying game bloat in favour of an accessible d6 system. In that draft, characters operate using three core attributes: Stabbyness, Sneakyness, and Spellyness. Standard tests require rolling a d6 and adding the relevant modifier against a target difficulty. Combat plays out as a Stabbyness check against enemy strength, where success inflicts damage and failure immediately costs the character health. Rather than dealing in conventional gold pieces, defeated adversaries yield teeth, which serve as spending currency at roadside merchants such as the Fat Goblin’s store.
Exploration takes place across a hex-grid map divided into areas like the Wizard’s Tower, the Swamp, and hostile settlements. Movement rules simulate erratic monster impulses: characters resolve an action in a hex before immediately scampering along to the next. Gear alters capabilities in tactile ways; headwear offers distinct passive perks, such as Tin Hats absorbing top-end damage rolls, while finding a Pointy Hat unlocks bizarre spellcasting disciplines like Necropeserpentry. Foes range from intrusive low-level human adventurers to the notoriously mean wildlife roaming the woods.
