Global publisher Titan Comics and Heroic Signatures will bring Kull back to comic book stores in early 2027. The news was officially announced on Saturday, 25 July 2026, during the Conan panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
The new series features a highly decorated creative team. Writer John Arcudi, known for The Mask and B.P.R.D., takes the helm. He is joined by Eisner Award-winning artist Mark Buckingham, recognised for his work on Fables and Hellblazer, and Eisner Award-winning colourist Dave Stewart. Together, they will explore the Thurian Age, the ancient era that predates the adventures of Conan the Barbarian.
Created by pulp writer Robert E. Howard in 1929, Kull predates his more famous barbarian successor. The character first appeared in the story The Shadow Kingdom, establishing early blueprints for the sword and sorcery genre. Kull is an Atlantean exile who eventually rises to become the king of Valusia. Over the years, the property has seen various adaptations. This includes the 1997 film starring Kevin Sorbo. Interestingly, that movie was originally scripted as a Conan sequel but was reworked into a Kull story when casting plans changed.
While the new comic was announced in California, Titan Comics operates out of London. Because of the long lead time between the summer 2026 reveal and the early 2027 publication date, British fans might get a chance to see early preview art at local UK conventions later this year.
Specific story details remain light, and it is not yet confirmed if this new series is a direct adaptation of Howard’s original text or a brand-new adventure. However, we can predict that Titan’s sister brand, Forbidden Planet, will likely be the first to have more details about the new release.
