Last week, Geek Native posted a free Epigoni mythpop quickstart.
The RPG is of gods with lives like ours, but who are still also divine embodiments of ideas and fighting not to become a Stereotype. This week the dual-language (English and Italian) roleplaying game launched on Kickstarter.
The €10,000 goal has been met already, and you can find out more or pledge from the project page.
Mythpop means inspiration like Neil Gaiman’s American Gods and Sandman, Alan Moore’s Promethea and Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson. It also means urban fantasy from China Mieville or even twists and action from John Woo and Quentin Tarantino.
Epigoni uses the Copperhead RPG system, which fails forward, meaning that a dice miss means paying a higher price for success. Players use Keywords from their character definitions to see if they can make a Challenge easier and only roll d8.
Unlike the Entities that gave birth to them, forever bound to their role in the story, these Epigoni are dangerous anomalies in the World of Myth: they’re free from the constraints of a pre-written plot. For this reason, they can’t help but draw the eye of Fate. Its goal is to push them into becoming the Stereotype it has chosen for them, turning them into merciless, mundane, easily forgettable beings: the Vacui.
A pledge of €30, about £26, will get you the Epigoni core rules and the Visioni setting book in PDF. Alternatively, backers at that level could go a printed edition of the core rules, with PDFs for it and the Godnet Database instead.
If you want all three in PDF, support at the €45 level.
At €60, backers get the core rules and the setting book printed with all three PDFs bundled or, and this gets tricky, the limited edition cover of the core rules with the PDFs of the usual core rules and Godnet.
There are other tiers, including early birds, including some that have sold out already, and they top out at €150.
The team estimate that project will have an April 2023 delivery.
