Otome Games are usually targeted at young women, and so a dating sim Otome would typically be… well, have a female lead character?
The first trailer for Trapped in a Dating Sim – The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs left us wondering whether the anime for Yomu Mishima’s manga would be Otome at all. The second trailer edges us towards safety; no.
It seems less and less likely, and instead, this is an isekai, harem, mecha crossover. As you do.
In theory, we’re meeting the characters in this trailer but I think it’s really about showing the fantasy world, the mechs and the tone of the show.
The manga is available via Amazon, the redirects from ComiXology apparently not being important enough to do, and there the book is described;
Thanks to some unfortunate gameplay, a young man named Leon has been reborn into the world of an alternate universe otome game. Facing an absurd scenario where males are no better than livestock who serve at the whim of women, Leon only has one weapon — his knowledge of the dating sim genre — to survive the challenges he faces and inspire a revolt against the system!
That’s some loaded language, right there. The manga reviews well, though, with dozens of stars and almost a perfect rating. It’s not in the top 4,000 of manga sales. Niche interest?
The anime begins in Japan at the start of April.
