A lockdown delayed anime film, The Deer King, is coming to cinema screens in the UK thanks to Anime Limited. Later, GKIDS will take it to North America with subtitles and an English dub.
The story eventually takes us to a salt mine, and a mysterious illness blamed on – wait for – immigrants. Fantasy and contemporary.
The original novels, two published at once, came out in 2014 via Kadokawa and then expanded to four in 2017. In total, an impressive 1.5 million copies have been sold.
The Deer King picks up with soldiers expecting to fight and die against overwhelming odds. Van survives and is taken to the salt mine as a save.
The soldier escapes during a dog attack, after which that illness breaks out.
