Due out this year, Belle is an anime from Mamoru Hosoda and Studio Chizu about a young woman struggling to deal with the death of her mother who starts to sing in online virtual reality.
Belle (as Suzu’s avatar is known) becomes a superstar in this near-future social network and attracts the Dragon’s attention.
The social network is called U, and there Belle attracts audiences of millions for her musical performances. When Dragon disrupts one of them, a vigilante mob goes after Dragon virtually and in real life.
Drawing on such stories as the Phantom of the Opera and Beauty and the Beast, Belle looks like it is in contention for awards already and might carve out a similar musical niche in international anime feature-lengths.
As the official synopsis for the movie says at the end;
Another reality. Another you. You’re not alone anymore.
