Palladium Books looses the Robotech license after 30 years

March 1, 2018 by Andrew Girdwood 2 Comments

Palladium Books has published Robotech games for 30 years but the license has now expired and it will not be renewed. This is especially bad news for the already problem haunted Robotech RPG Tactics (RPT) Kickstarter which took US$1.44 million in 2013. The second wave of backer rewards will not be coming but Palladium founder […]

The future with Sink00 – mechs and more

March 1, 2018 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Sink00 is a bit of a mystery. The artist posts to their tumblr, sharing some great sci-fi art, but doesn’t offer any text or anything about themselves. Thank goodness for reverse image searches. Slide Sink00’s art into Google and you’ll probably find yourself back at Shinku’s ArtStation. Skinku is a concept artist from South Korea […]

Appleseed art print

August 9, 2017 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Michael Stephens is an artist, gamer and runner from the northwest of England. I rather like his Twitter profile which he describes as a backup drive for his mind. Stephens hasn’t done much with his Society6 profile, but has picked up 11 followers and has made this simple but effective Appleseed sketch available. [I fancy […]

I don’t know much about Quan Pham Tung but I know I like his work. There’s a full range of style here; from the brush-effect paintings through to clean lines of sci-fi art. You can check out his professional profile at phamtungquan.com or admire more of his work on ArtStation or Blogger.

Behold! Zoids’ Iron Kong

January 31, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood 1 Comment

Tomy still hold the Zoids franchise but working under license Threezero have put together this impressive 1/72 scale ZOIDS Iron Kong. The model measures 10.2 high and 12.6 inches wide. There’s an impressive 50 points of articulation which include the fingers, a mouth that can be opened, a rotatable circular saw and an extendable backpack […]

Sneakily gripping: A review of Robotics; Notes parts 1 and 2

November 3, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This is a review of both parts of Robotics;Notes. I was able to watch both parts in quick succession because of a hurt foot and compulsory residence on the sofa. It makes a big difference to the series. Part 1 (episodes 1 to 11) are great but give the impression of a carefully paced, feel […]

Is this MechWarrior the best Halloween costume for kids we’ll see this year?

October 31, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Halloween is that time of year you get to turn your 6-month old son into a Sunder from the MechWarrior series. At least; use him as part of the costume. Ryan and Geraint’s MechWarrior costume was several years in the planning (long before Geraint was born). It’s good to see the project come to life. […]

Real enough for you? A review of Appleseed Alpha

October 18, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

I think the Appleseed series is underrated. It’s always been great fun and always pushed ahead to explore with what animation can do. Appleseed Alpha is no exception. At times, for the scenery, I actually wondered whether it was a photo still that had been animated over the top of. The animation quality in Appleseed […]
