Will there be two Ant-Men in Ant-Man?

January 6, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Many years ago over at SuperHero Hype Edgar Wright talked about Ant-Man, a film he’s wanted to do for a while, and mentioned the idea of having the first Ant-Man Henry Pym and the second Ant-Man Scott Lang. Lang is a reformed thief and electronics expert whereas Pym is pretty much an obsessed scientist. Well, […]

Treasures of the Ninth World: A Review of the Cypher and Artifact & Oddities Collections for Numenera

January 6, 2014 by Paul Baldowski Leave a Comment

As a planet, we generate a huge amount of waste and while some gets recycled, a lot ends up in landfill. We also have a fair amount ending up in the sea, most of which (the media would suggest) seems to end up in the nexus of the Pacific gyre. Suffice to say, each year […]

This sandcastle is the last hope for man: Minas Tirith

January 5, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Do you remember the mighty Minas Tirith from The Lord of the Rings films? This is the castle city that was home to the ancient kings of man. It was the might that stood in front of the Black Gate and held the forces of the shadow back. Deviant artist Buckaroo Joe has taken to […]

This dragon cake as a two foot wingspan

January 5, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

It took 22 hours to make and although it’s mainly food the wingspan of the dragon is two foot and so there’s a simple metal armature inside. The rest of the dragon tower is fondant, gumpaste and chocolate cake.

An Iron-man wood burn

January 5, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

It takes hours to burn this image of Iron Man into the wood. It’s a skill of art and a test of stamina. Thanks to BTJ Pyro this is not a challenge we need to face. We can watch the whole process in a video sped up 24 times so that it takes little over […]

Would you say “I do” to a Cylon engagement ring?

January 5, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

They met at a Battlestar Galactica party and Redditor DisturbedRobot knew she was a keeper. He planned to propose and to use a BSG engagement ring. He would have to design it first. He also had to use gold and diamonds from his grandmother’s ring to provife the materials for the ring. It was crafter […]

Alchemy: Transforming the elements into characters

January 5, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

What’s the strangest source of inspiration you’ve ever used for a character? What about one of the elements? Kaycie D is an illustrator who has taken this to a whole new level. For her senior thesis project she’s taken the entire periodic table and transformed them into characters. For the project, Elements: Experiments in Character […]

Nooo! The dungeons of old RPGs are a nightmare

January 5, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Found this over on Pinterest. It’s a joke about computer RPG dungeon crawls; the health bar gives that away but I suspect it’s one that might ring true with OSR (type #3) fans too.

Irregular Reconnaissance: Anime #4

January 5, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

It’s time for an Irregular Reconnaissance: Anime catch up. The holidays have provided some time to catch up on a series or two. Geek Native’s recently looked at part two of Blue Exorcist and Horizon on the Middle of Nowhere but what of those shows that are being watched one episode at a time? In […]
