Part TARDIS, part dalek and part dress

January 31, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood 1 Comment

Here’s cosplay worthy of Gallifrey – although the subject might worry those Time Lords. Cosplayer Bewitched Raven has created a hybrid dress, a mixture of TARDIS and dalek complete with a light from each on her headband. The photography is by CONography who, as the name suggests, specialise in convention based photography.

Retro sci-fi as Boiling Point serve up more posters

January 31, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood 1 Comment

Creative group Boiling Point have taken to Etsy and expanded their range of fan posters. In the past I’ve rather liked Boiling Point’s Shogun Warrior collection. The new “retro sci-fi” have a similar style, mixing colours with simplicity to create some striking images. The Flash Gordon poster [The poster is alive!] The Black Hole poster […]

Chaosmos board game is a love letter to sci-fi master William Sleator

January 31, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood 1 Comment

This post by Joey Vigour, the lead designer at Mirror Box Games, is about YA sci-fi author William Sleator and his book Interstellar Pig. Strange as it may sound, Interstellar Pig is the inspiration for the Chaosmos board game that’s close to raising $100,000 on Kickstarter. William Sleator is gone now, but every used bookstore […]

Cyberpunk RPG soundtracks kickstarter

January 30, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

[Back this Campaign] This is a RPG campaign that gets to use the word retrofuturistic in the pitch. It’s the project by an artist called Strangelette who suggests her mind might be akin to The Addams Family taking on a 3D role-playing game. The pitch is to provide soundtracks for roleplaying games. We’re talking Shadowrun, […]

The creation of Dungeons & Dragons: The Great Kingdom

January 30, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This is the trailer for the documentary The Great Kingdom that follows the creation of Dungeons & Dragons. It’s about the great work of Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson… and then the troubles with TSR. I think the trailer looks pretty compelling. It’s just a few minutes long and seems to promise an interesting story. […]

This photograph shows Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor walking with Jenna Coleman on the set of Doctor Who. It looks like Queen Street in Cardiff and you can see the pattern of Santander, Lush and Phones 4u on Google Maps. The photo was taken by Alun Vega who has a pretty good record at […]

Beware the Pikachu crawler

January 29, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Imagine seeing a cute Pikachu peeping up from behind a bush. Imagine the horror as it crawls forth to reveal the bloated caterpillar body that shuffled through the mud. How fast would you run when the monster’s head peeled back to reveal a gaping jaw and rows of teeth. I know. It would be being […]
