Tritons are an aquatic race of humanoids, generally neutral good, who have been part of Dungeons & Dragons ever since the publication of Original Dungeons & Dragons.
Yes, Tritons have Darkvision. In June 2020, Wizards of the Coast officially ruled that Adventurer’s League legal Tritons have Darkvision.
Historically, Tritons have had Darkvision. That makes sense for a race that spends almost all of its time under dimly lit waters.
However, while D&D 5e Tritons have a racial feature called Guardians of the Depths which allows them to ignore drawbacks caused by a deep, underwater environment, the rules did not specify Darkvision.
In June 2020, Wizards of the Coast published Mythic Odysseys of Theros and in it Tritons have Darkvision.
An official AL update was made;
While Mythic Odysseys of Theros is not a valid resource for Adventurers League play, the team at Wizards of the Coast has used it to make a change to the Triton race — granting Triton characters the Darkvision trait. This is an intentional change to the race itself, and the Wizards team will be updating Volo’s Guide to Monsters to reflect this change. As a result, Adventurers League-legal Triton characters do now have darkvision.
