I was so excited by the news, I forgot until now to blog about it – but we’re getting a Star Trek series called Strange New Worlds which takes Anson Mount (Captain Pike), Ethan Peck (Spock) and Rebecca Romijn (Number 1) out exploring the galaxy.

We learn that the story was written by Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet. As Mount says in the video introduction, there’s the suggestion that this show is back to the basics of Star Trek. I imagine that means boldly going and encountering new adventures as they go.
These are the same characters, with actors, that appeared in Discovery season 2. In Discovery we mess around with time but also foreshadow Pike’s ultimate fate. Whether or not there’s any scope to ‘save’ Pike is unknown, and there may well be no desire to do so. Pike, after all, seems to be able to carry on despite knowing his grim future.
The news also reminds that Discovery season three is on the way, as is the animated Star Trek: Lower Decks and Section 31 with Michelle Yeoh are all in the works.
