Red Scar Publishing is the British studio working on the Kings of War with Mantic Games. They’re also the talent behind Devil’s Run, the roleplaying game based on the car chase board game of the same name.
At the helm of Red Scar is Marc Langworthy who is line developer for Modiphius’ 2d20 system and who wrote the Devil’s Run: Route 666 board game.
It’s no surprise then to see that the quickstart download for the new Devil’s Run RPG is being distributed by Modiphius and uses the 2d20 system. There’s also going to be a Savage Worlds option. You can grab a copy from DriveThruRPG.
Devil’s Run the roleplaying RPG is set 20 years after a nuclear and biological exchange between the East and the West. The West struck first and so east of Europe is a radioactive wasteland.
The West’s preemptive strike was not enough to prevent retaliation and the missiles that hit America included a virus that turns the dead into zombies.
The video pitch for the relaunched Kickstarter for the Devil’s Run RPG tells the story (in dramatic voice-over).
What’s in the Devil’s Run RPG quickstart?
The Mad Max / Escape from New York style game’s quickstart comes with an introduction to the 2d20 system, including the new Momentum and Fallout mechanics.
There’s a history of the fall of civilisation, from launch to the current state of affairs in the game some two decades later.
There’s a geographical tour of the former west coast of American, including the larger factions and the battles on the highways.
There’s a much briefer look at the rest of the world which highlights a few remaining superpowers. Those survivors engaged in a desperate struggle for what’s left of the world’s resources.
Lastly, as you’d expect from a quick start, it includes a pre-written scenario that can be used with either 2d20 or Savage Worlds.
You can download Devil’s Run Quickstart for free from DriveThruRPG.
