Two weeks ago the app updated with this message;
This app is shutting down at the end of January 2018. I know it is used by many gamers, and I apologise for the disappointment, but I can no longer justify the running costs for it, nor do I have any time to maintain and update it. However, the code is and remains open-source, so you’re welcome to fork it and run your own version. I recommend you download a backup of all your characters. I will also make a copy of the database when I shut it down. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
Fans were disappointed. The shutdown also risks players and GMs getting vital character information wiped as well. Exporting your data from the character sheet app is still strongly recommended.
However, Frank has since updated the website with the following message;
Since announcing that I would have to shut this app down a few days ago, I have been overwhelmed by the messages of good wishes, and offers of support from the community, which has taken me somewhat aback. I am currently in talks with several enterprising people interested in taking over the running (and the improvement) of the app. I will update this with more details as I have them, but for now at least, it looks like the app is not going away. I guess it rolled a 20 on a death save! Feel free to contact me with any questions.
If you wish to help out with hosting costs, I am grateful for every little donation.
Isn’t it great when the RPG community comes together. We’re still waiting to see whether there are any future announcements but this update sounds positive. January only has a few days left in it… but perhaps this isn’t the last we’ll see of Mottokrosh’s Eldritch Online Character Sheet.
