Its escapism guys, its not meant to be realistic… Same way men in womens magazines, romance novels, rom-com’s & pretty much every single female-centric product line isn’t realistic.
Because its escapism & nothing puts a pin in escapiusm as fast as reality. People go to escapism, to escape reality: hence the name
You are right!
Got to admit it makes sense. Of course I prefer the example on the left! ^_^
It’s very important to keep realism up in non-fiction stories like all superhero ones are.
If you can run and fight in heels, you’re actually pretty badass.
Matt, that’s a pretty thin argument.
The men in those magazines and rom-coms are living, breathing people. They’re models and actors.

I agree. And yes, SuperGirl, Captain Marvel and WonderWoman would end up like this (well, maybe not Supergirl cuz she heals super fast and well). Even the god-like ones get hurts and bleed, so scars would happen. And the one on the right is no less beautiful than the one on the left. She’s relatable too.
But maybe it’s a problem of target audience. When I was a kid maybe the “Fantasy” one was my favorite. It’s definitely not anymore.
Check out the book series ‘Wearing the Cape’. Except for the scars Astra is like the illustration on the right. In the stories she had to overcome NOT being tall and busty in an occupation that expected it.
