This weekend at Tabletop Scotland 2026 I caught up with Simon Birks of Blue Fox Comics who, along with debuting new game Nine Shrines, was able to tease something else rather exciting was on the way – in the form of a new solo journaling RPG!

The game will be a new solo RPG version of popular comic series Bats in the Attic, and although at the moment it’s a working title (I’d imagine something like Bats in the Attic: xxxx xxxxx), it sounds like it’ll be something fun for gothic comic fans of the series who want to find themselves in the heart of the story.
Bats in the Attic 1 & 2 was written and drawn by Nina Poulston and lettered by Rob Jones, and the story follows character May as she cares for the empty manor of her dead wife at night.
Exhausted during the day, May starts hearing strange sounds and catches unsettling red glimpses out of the corner of her eye in the eerie gothic vampire tale.
Although there’s no artwork or anything much else to tease you with, we’re hoping that you’ll find this little tidbit of knowledge exciting and probably enough to follow Blue Fox Comics for updates on the old ‘gram.
Based in Linlithgow, the publisher was founded 11 years ago by Birks, who started off making comics, before beginning to publish the work of other creators, too. Seven years ago, Birks started working on choose your own adventure books (one of which I’ve bought today and am quite excited to try!).
As mentioned above, you can also check out Nine Shrines, which made its debut this weekend at Tabletop Scotland. It’s a game where you have to light your shrines, whilst dousing out the shrines of your opponents!

It’s stumbling upon independent publishers and creators like this that make Tabletop Scotland really fun and special, so thanks to Birks for sharing this info with me – Girdy seemed to have the impression you’re always up to something, and in this case, he wasn’t wrong!
