Minor Disaster Games is developing a big box expansion for Trouble on the Tempus, bringing environmental flight conditions and external hazards to the cooperative time-travel board game. Speaking to Geek Native on the show floor at Tabletop Scotland in the Royal Highland Centre, the design team suggested they are actively working on the project, which aims to alter internal ship rules based on the vessel’s location in deep space.

The Milton Keynes- and London-based family studio, founded in 2020 by brothers Liam Mitchell-Dolby and Kristian Mitchell-Dolby, alongside Caley Powell-Mitchell-Dolby, has seen sustained momentum behind its flagship release. While the designers remained discreet regarding exact launch dates, the expansion is expected to force players to adapt their repair, crisis management, and temporal movement strategies to external cosmic events, such as gravitational distortion near black holes or system failures during cosmic radiation storms.
The development marks a significant step forward from the studio’s earlier card-based add-ons. In the core game, players race around the decks of the Tempus repairing broken subsystems, putting out fires, and jumping through time tracks to fix cascading failures before the ship implodes. Introducing external environmental modifiers means the ship’s physical position across the galaxy will dictate changes in board conditions inside the corridors, shifting baseline rules from round to round.
The announcement capped off a busy weekend for the publisher in Ingliston. Minor Disaster Games completely exhausted its convention stock of the neoprene roll-out ship mats during the show. Originally produced purely as lightweight convention demo aids rather than consumer products, strong player demand during the original campaign run prompted the team to make them available to backers and show attendees. With the Edinburgh event exhausting the final batch, players wanting the roll-out surface will have to wait for a potential future print run.
For tabletop collectors hunting physical upgrades, the studio brought along its convention-exclusive large character meeples. These oversized wooden figures, designed to replace the standard ship standees, remain unavailable through standard retail distribution or general online webstores. The team confirmed that these large meeples will continue to be reserved strictly for direct convention appearances.

With the core print run established and convention inventory clearing out, the planned big box expansion will test how far the team can stretch the game’s temporal puzzle mechanics. Geek Native will track development updates, crowdfunding plans, and rule previews as Minor Disaster Games finalises the project.
