A new Kickstarter campaign offers a modern take on the classic solo adventure, blending the spirit of gamebooks with the mechanics of a tabletop RPG and the immersion of a visual novel. Echoes in the Deep – A Fateforge Tale is a standalone solo TTRPG set in the ENnie award-winning world of Eana, designed to be played without a Game Master.
The project, currently live on Kickstarter, presents a unique proposition for both newcomers to the hobby and veteran solo players.
There’s a giant collection of traditional Fateforge RPG as Pay What You Want available on DriveThruRPG.
On offer in this Kickstarter is a full-colour hardcover A5 book with an adventure you can one-shot and five missions that take longer.
Inside, there is the underbelly of Free City, 5e-inspired rules for your 3rd-level human rogue and branching scenes as you would expect from a gamebook. As the pitch says, only one good ending, but many ways to die.
Echoes in the Deep also has side quests, and if you’re new to Fateforge, that’s no bad thing as the game is designed be self-contained and an introduction. You don’t need to learn the rules before you start reading.
If this Kickstarter campaign is successful enough, we would love to fund a new feature that tracks player choices throughout the visual novel. These stats would be used in a future release: the official Fateforge TTRPG campaign! Your decisions could directly influence the fate of key characters in the world of Eana. Will they rise, fall… or disappear forever? The choice will be yours.
Backers who pledge €20 (which is currently worth around £18) get a digital edition of Echoes in the Deep, although supporters get access to add-ons at an earlier level. The digital edition means a PDF and a Steam Key.
The standard edition, a PDF and a Steam Key, unlock at €30, but in the world we live in these days, it is always worth noting that shipping and taxes must go on top.
The Collector’s Red Dragon Edition of Echoes in the Deep manifests at €50 plus the digital access.
At €70, backers get the core Echoes in the Deep digital books and Fateforge books as well.
There’s a limited tier set at €80 for the Red Dragon edition, accessories in a box and the digital edition. After that, there’s an impressive €250 tier.
The campaign is due to run until July 4th, and delivery is slated for August 2026.
