Kobold Press are on Kickstarter with over $200,000 backed for Player’s Guide 2. It’s a book for D&D and Tales of the Valiant (they mention D&D first).
The 5e-based system expands with downtime rules, strongholds, and numerous subclasses, but the headline mention goes to the Vanguard martial class. You can read more on the pitch page.
The campaign runs until the 27th, and if you’re curious or simply can’t wait to get your hands on it, there’s a free 23-page download preview.
The free download includes a sneak peek at the Vanguard, three of the subclasses, a frog lineage and a little sample of Kobold Press’ base-building rules.
In addition to rules the Kickstarter includes several accessories, including Luck tokens. Kobold says that their Luck rules have been very popular, and the tokens are a handy physical reminder.
On the other end of the tabletop spectrum, there is also good news for VTTs as Foundry, Shard, and Fantasy Grounds support these rules. Kobold Press states that more will be added as timelines and partner support permit. That’s my emphasis, and I’ve done that because a certain big beast in the virtual tabletop space is missing.
Player’s Guide 2 is the first major rules supplement honed to perfection by Kobold Press. This huge leap forward for the Tales of the Valiant RPG gives its 5E-based system new downtime rules, expanded strongholds, improved ritual casting, and a range of new subclasses, a dozen new lineages, and more than 150 spells and rituals. The Vanguard martial class as well as the Witch and the Theurge casting classes offer new paths to adventure!

Backers at the $29 tier, which is approximately £22, receive the PDF edition, and Kobold says this is about a $5 discount, with no danger of tariffs.
Those Tales of the Valiant fans who like the traditional books are in luck, as the hardcover and PDF unlock at $59. Shipping and that drama will be calculated later.
The $69 tier gets the PDF and a VTT edition, and Kobold points out that’s a 16% discount based on buying both together.
If you can double your pledge, there are even more rewards, but they’re running low in the limited $129 tier. Here, backers get the limited edition, the PDF, and 3-character journals, and this tier won’t be a late backer option.
Other tiers have sold out, and there are some retailer options.
Kobold Press suggest January 2026 is when backers will get their books.
