ReedPop has unveiled the winners of the May 2025 MCM Scholarship, now in its second year following its inception last October. The scholarship program is dedicated to nurturing emerging creative talents as they begin their careers.

The scholarship recipients will receive a comprehensive package designed to support their development. This includes complimentary three-day entry to the MCM Comic Con in May, three-night accommodation at a hotel near the ExCeL London venue, and a cash prize of £500. A significant aspect of the scholarship is a bespoke itinerary created by ReedPop, which is tailored to each winner’s specific career goals. This personalised plan connects them with established professionals, offering valuable learning and networking opportunities.
The accomplished individuals selected for this year’s scholarship are:
- Muminah Koleoso: A budding author and poet from Scotland, Muminah’s creative focus lies in science fiction and fantasy. Her writing seeks to amplify underrepresented voices and delve into the convergence of sci-fi and poetry. Muminah plans to utilise the scholarship to cultivate a community of kindred literary spirits and to organise workshops for fellow creatives from marginalised backgrounds.
- Sudipta Patra: An up-and-coming comic book illustrator and children’s author based in Northern Ireland, Sudipta intends to use the MCM Scholarship to propel his career forward in illustration and storytelling across various media, including comics, children’s literature, and animation.
- Ash Norman: An aspiring concept artist with ambitions in video game development, Ash aims to secure a full-time role within an independent game studio. The scholarship will be instrumental in networking with professionals from the video game industry at MCM Comic Con and in expanding their artistic abilities across gaming, music videos, film, and comics.
The continuation of the MCM Scholarship into 2025 underscores a broader commitment to investing in the future of the creative sectors. It specifically aims to assist young individuals from working-class and underrepresented backgrounds who often encounter obstacles when entering their chosen careers.
Beyond the scholarship program, MCM Comic Con will provide a variety of educational activities accessible to all attendees. These include workshops on special effects makeup led by professional SFX artist BBSFX, one-on-one voice acting coaching sessions with voice actors JD Kelly and Trine Jensen, and an interactive writing workshop focused on young adult fiction, conducted by Amy McCaw, the author of the Mina and the Undead Trilogy, among other events.
MCM Comic Con London, recognised as one of Europe’s largest fan conventions, has been a biannual fixture at ExCeL London since 2002, typically on the final weekends of May and October. Produced by ReedPop, the event draws tens of thousands of attendees annually. The convention boasts diverse attractions, such as celebrity panels, exclusive premieres, cosplay events, comic book writing workshops, showcases for independent artists, and live-action role-playing, although it is sometimes criticised for not having enough comic books for a comic con.
