You’ve come off a hard shift at the fast food restaurant, but the chance of turning a tarot reading into some money lures you in. What could go wrong?
“This is not an Emergency” chronicles a day in the life of a group of friends facing a cascade of minor crises. The narrative begins casually at a coffee shop before the group makes plans to meet others at a cemetery, where one friend, Christy, mentions earning money through tarot readings. They are also responsible for Cody’s younger brother during these events.
Their day takes a turn when they briefly leave the little brother unattended outside a store and subsequently realize he has wandered off. The search leads them to an encounter with a man on his property before they eventually locate the missing child. Following this incident, the group engages in the planned tarot readings, but the relative calm is short-lived as the younger brother then destroys an electric scooter. The video concludes with another character, Alex, revealing they have lost their job, adding to the day’s chaotic sequence.
The film is Syndey’s A thesis and personal experience growing up in Georgie for CalArts. Let’s hope we see more of them.
