Branden Webb wrote An Introduction To Heraldry for Larps and RPGs, so we might conclude they’re a smart cookie.
The author’s latest offering to DriveThruRPG is a little less fancy, though; it’s a Pay What You Want Rubber Duckies. It’s a Rubber Duck RPG.
The game, intended for kids, has characters who are rubber ducks who go on adventures. The game engine uses d6s, and the ducks have four stats;
- Squeak
- Squish
- Splash
- Squirt
There’s some math in the game, which, for many, is a good thing, as players have eight points to assign to those four stats. The game system adds the relevant stat to a d6 roll, and the player has to beat the target number set by the Duck-Herder (GM).
There are optional rules, such as ways to handle extra large or tiny rubber ducks and even themed rubber ducks, and there’s enough meat on the system to encourage kids to think and learn. It’s, I think, abstract enough that a Duck-Herder can nudge all the action along with storytelling and direction.

The download has a suggested $2 price tag, and it weighs in at 10 pages. The rules take up about half of that because there’s even a pre-written adventure in case you need to distract the kids immediately.
