PalaeoGames are actual palaeontologists who play RPGs, make tabletop content and who have taken Dr Dhrolin’s Dictionary of Dinosaurs to Kickstarter.
Well, I’ve not dug into academic records to verify those claims. Still, nearly 1,000 backers have put their money and faith in the project, and now we’ve got palaeontology, with optional magic rules, coming to 5e. You can see the pitch or join in on the project page.
My gosh. You get to learn stuff with this 5e sourcebook. What we’re getting is;
- 30+ new Mesozoic creatures, or more given the success of the book, for 5e
- 3+ playable races
- 3+ subclasses
- 3+ backgrounds
- 2+ environments with effects
- 10+ NPCs
- Plot hooks and story ideas
- Evolutionary mutations
- Behaviour variations for creatures
- Information on palaeontology and palaeontological reconstructions
- New items
Everything we have designed is backed up by painstaking research. Each animal provides not only an interested and exciting encounter, but a palaeontologically accurate reconstruction. A great union of gaming and science education.
You can support this campaign by sharing it on social media or donating any amount, but if you can find £19, you’ll get a digital copy of the book.
At £30, the 3D dinosaur models, digital tokens and digital stretch goals are added.
Alternatively, at £37, some of those digital goodies are cut back to the core rules, but you also get a physical copy of Dr Dhorlin’s. The book will ship from the UK.
£50 backers will get all of the above, the physical book and all the digital goodies mentioned so far. However, the £75 tier attracts the most interest as it adds in the art prints and the GeekyClean dinosaur bath bombs!
There’s a retailers’ pledge, some early birds that have sold out and an estimated delivery date of November 2023 on the project.
