Based on Kakeruo Kobashiri’s light night novels, The Dawn of the Witch is about a student at a magic school suffering from memory loss.
The anime is streaming on Crunchyroll and we’re getting new trailers too. One last push to get those early episode audience numbers up?
Crunchyroll describes the series;
I can’t remember. Who am I? What am I? Seville is a student at a magic academy who has no memories of anything from before he joined the school. Not understanding why he’s there, the time he spends at the academy feels hollow and empty. And since he doesn’t know how to work hard, his grades are always the lowest in his year. Then, one day, the school headmaster, Albus, orders Seville to participate in a dangerous special training. “I want you to spread the use of magic in an area where they hold witch hunts.” It has only been a few years since the war between the church and the witches came to an end—the world has not yet fully accepted witches and their magic. This is the dawn of the age of the witch. This is the story of how a young man, a boy who is no one special, and his companions, who all hold wounds in their hearts, set out and end up finding themselves.
That sounds okay but doesn’t lean into the tension between witches and Church very much. The IMDB storyline sounds better and changes the main character’s name from Seville to Sable.
The war that raged between the Church and the Witches for five centuries finally ended in peace but a few short years ago. However, nestled in the shadowy places of the world, the embers of that age old conflict still smolder. Attending the Royal Academy of Magic of the Kingdom of Wenias is a struggling student named Sable, who has no memories of his time before being enrolled. At the command of Headmaster Albus, he left the Kingdom to travel to the southern reaches of the continent, where anti-magic insurgents are still a force to be reckoned with, as part of a special training regimen. Accompanying him are a party of individuals strong in both ability and personality; there’s the one known as the Witch of the Dawn, Roux Cristasse, who seeks the forbidden knowledge of primeval magic in the ‘Grimoire of Zero,’ the genius girl Holtz, as well as the school’s sole beast, Kudd. Just what truth shall they uncover in their journey to the south?
Neither synopsis tackles the odd style of hiked-up dress, though!
