Z-Man Games and Blizzard have teamed up to take the Pandemic series board game and make a World of Warcraft mashup. The result is Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King – A Pandemic board game.
In the style of the co-operative Pandemic, the Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King board game is a journey across Azeroth, battles and quests to stop the spread of the Lich King.
Players are heroes of Azeroth who might fight through the Scourge and reach Prince Arthas’s throne. The threat now known as the Lich King has to be defeated.
Justin Kemppainen, Director of Brand Management at Z-Man Games, told pres;
Wrath of the Lich King is our first time taking the Pandemic game system into beloved fictional settings like Azeroth. It literally opens up a whole new world of possibility. There’s no greater threat to Azeroth than the Scourge. The game really illustrates that by mixing the thrilling co-operative gameplay Pandemic fans know and love with World of Warcraft. We’re confident new and existing players of both franchises will love it!”
The game uses familiar Pandemic mechanics but tweaked for World of Warcraft.
The board game is extra large and features temples, forts, battlegrounds, and iconic locations from the MMO.
Detailed plastic minis represent characters from the computer game such as Thrall, the Warchief of the Horde; Varian Wrynn, King of Stormwind; and Sylvanas Windrunner, Banshee Queen of the Forsaken.
Hero cards give players an edge against enemies, unique mounts or even healing cards. Meanwhile, quests are a brand new mechanic in the Pandemic universe used to set heroes out against other enemies or destroy evil relics.
