Enjoy this supercut of robots on film

April 11, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

How many of the movies featured in this supercut have you seen? I think Star Wars stands out as a leap forward in robot design but I’m also pretty impressed at how some of the early robot designs worked out. It seems like it was the early 70s and mid-80s that had the strangest robots. […]

Boeing gets patent on force fields

March 30, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

The multinational manufacturer of airplanes, rockets and satellites has picked up an American patent on military force fields. This computer-voice / animation combo explains how the technology works. It doesn’t feel quite like “force fields from Star Wars” to me but, yeah, I get the reference. It’s also worth noting that the technology does seem […]

Watch as an Imperial Star Destroyer sweeps across the sky

March 29, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

How this for a real life Imperial Star Destroyer? It just happens to be an RC drone. The parts for the model came from Hobby King and include a 360gr custom frame that sits on top of a 810gr quadcopter with battery.

Is this what Obi-Wan’s ghost should have done?

March 13, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

I rather like this quirky Star Wars comedy from Dorkly. Do you know what… they rather do have a point. Surely Obi-Wan might have been able to manifest a little more often? Mind you; I’m not sure Vader would be such a wuss.

Samurai Darth Vader and storm troops

March 12, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Really like this piece by Patrik Rosander. It’s called “Lord Vader and his troops” and Rosander says it makes use of “… semi historically accurate equipment”. You can see more of Patrik’s work on ArtStation and even buy this print on Society6 for an added bonus.

How much of today’s money would it take to build the Millennium Falcon? [infographic]

March 5, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

There have been campaigns to go out and build the Death Star and other Star Wars delights. What about the Millennium Falcon? Let’s skip questions like “Should we build it?” and “Could we build it?” and jump straight to the vital “How much would it cost to build the Falcon?” The long Star Wars infographic […]

It’s a trap! Trap

February 24, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood 2 Comments

How’s this for a brand of mouse traps? Ackbar! It’s a trap! “Mon Calamari” is the name of the amphibian species Gial Ackbar belongs too. In truth the trap was probably made on the planet Dac. Well, that’s unless all that Star Wars mythology is also wiped away by the new Disney bosses.

Geek culture Valentine’s Day Cards

February 12, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Here’s a weird one; Ladbrokes Bingo ran a survey to investigate romances and love in a few favourite cult TV series. Here’s what they dug up. Ross and Rachel from Friends were the nations favourite couple to come from TV and film (23%), closely followed by Jack and Rose from the Titanic (17%) and Han […]

Star Wars battles Star Trek

February 12, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Forget the pointless “Which is better” arguments and instead imagine what it would be like if the Empire attacked the Federation. It would be harsh. There would be many dramatic moments. You’d have to reach into some cinematic games in order to complete your impressive fan made trailer.
