Fantasy Warrior versions of The Avengers

June 25, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Deviant Artist The Durrrrian responded to a request from his housemate to paint The Avengers in a fantasy setting. He joked it seemed like a good thing to do while bored the class. The following is a sample of his work – I hope he’s bored in class quite a lot this year! Via Geek […]

CD shard dragon

June 24, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Imagine a dragon that reflected light so well that it looked like it was created out of a metallic rainbow. Imagine also that this wasn’t a CGI render but an actual, real, statue created from a wire mesh and over 130 carefully carved CDs. Over a Reddit the creator of the dragon admits they’ve thought […]

Starry Night by dominoes

June 24, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This video is impressive in a number of ways. It’s impressive because it’s a large and complex build that cumulates in what’s clearly Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night. It’s also impressive because the build goes wrong – more than once – and yet FlippyCat picks up the pieces, fixes the mess and starts again.

Holly Wood – geek icons as wooden carvings

June 24, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood 3 Comments

The French design boutique La Souris sur le Gateau have deployed some heavy weight CGI skills to remodel some iconic geek figures as if they were wooden statues. The project was speared by Tony and Emmanuelle and shows everyone from Darth Vader to Sonic. My question; is that last helmet Shreader from Teenage Mutant Ninja […]

The Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter mural

June 24, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

It was back in May when Geek Native covered news of a fresh blood art competition to support the Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter movie. It was a chance for your design to become a real thing and to spend the day with street art experts End of the Line. This is what the agency published […]

Seven fantastically horrible Beholder illustrations

June 17, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood 2 Comments

The Beholder is one of the most iconic Dungeons & Dragons monsters. According to Wikipedia it has appeared in every version of the game since 1975 and it is one of the few monsters protected by Wizards of the Coast’s attack lawyers. There is no historical or mythological basis for the Beholder. It spawned from […]

A quick tour of the 8-bit art world

June 16, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood 7 Comments

What is 8-bit art to you? Is it just nostalgia? There are now “8-bit artists” who have pushed the genre beyond nostalgia and into something contemporary. The culture includes 8-bit painting and even 8-bit music that is composed on GameBoys and still looks to evolve beyond gaming. Examples of 8-bit art

6 amazing buildings that adventurers would distrust

June 10, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

You know the score – there are some dungeons, some structures and some buildings that any savvy gaming group would take one look at and be concerned. We’re talking about those dungeon doors that inspire wizards to stock up on anti-undead spells or the suspiciously long shadows that encourage the entire party to make sure […]

Transform your living room into an RPG with an 8-bit fire

June 2, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This piece on Etsy from JamesBit is simply called Fireplace Art. What it does, however, is let you use your fireplace to transform the room into an cRPG setting. Fireplace Art is an 8-bit flame. If your fireplace is like mine and most of the others I’ve seen in friends’ flats and apartments then it may well […]

Uber cute Star Wars prints

May 25, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Etsy store Modern Home Prints has a limited number of these very cute Star Wars prints. The range includes a baby jawa, a baby Chewie and a “baby” R2-D”. This are exactly the sort of thing that wouldn’t look too geeky on your wall for the streamies and yet ooze geek cred to any fellow […]
