Simon Stålenhag is an artist responsive for firing the imagination of people across the world. His retro-futuristic illustrations are available as art books, you can sense his influence in TV shows (Stranger Things, for example).
There are two RPGs based on his “world”, and they’re both from Free League Publishing. The first is Tales from the Loop (where PCs are about the same age as the season 1 Stranger Things heroes) and the second is Things from the Flood (characters are teens and adventures turn deadly).
In 2017, Stålenhag Kickstarted a project called The Electric State.
This animation is a fan project based on The Electric State. Ilya Plotnikov took art from the Kickstarter and combined with music that Stålenhag had composed himself to create this beautiful short film. It’s not the complete The Electic State story, but it shows the world this runaway teen and her robot encounter as they move through the United States.
The Russo Brothers have optioned the book for a feature film, and Captain America screenwriters Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus have been linked with the project. Sadly, this does not mean we’ll get a movie, but it means if we do get a movie, then it’s most likely to be a Russo Brothers project.
