“The Cursed Earth” was the first epic length Judge Dredd storyline. It was published in 1978 and the full series has never seen the light of day again.
Why not? Some episodes featured parodies of iconic corporate powers; Burger King, Ronald McDonald, the Michelin Man and even the Jolly Green Giant. Punches were not pulled. The publisher of the strip at the time, IPC, worried about legal action did pull something – the reprint plans.
So why is 2000 AD able to re-print these Judge Dredd episodes now? There have been changes in English law which govern parodies. With better legal protection in place Judge Dredd: The Cursed Earth Uncensored will be printed again.
The teaser images below come from “Soul Food” and the “Burger Wars”.
