Kim Newman was way ahead of the curve when it came to re-inventing historical stories with supernatural and fictional characters woven in. His vampire series imagines what it would be like if Dracula had succeeded in taking over England and if Jack the Ripper was a vampire hunter.
Johnny Alucard is the fourth book in the series and picks up the action in 80s Hollywood. There’s drugs (called drac) and all sorts of wild scenes. If you’ve read the previous books then you’ll know the characters but Johnny Alucard is a re-set of the story, skipping forward in time and introducing, in part, new names. This is a book you can pick up and enjoy. Fancy winning a copy?
