I watched a chunk of the Black Butler anime before giving up. I wasn’t the target demographic.
The live action is very different. It’s set in the future. There’s a different sort of the anime-esq gender role tensions. Sebastian is still one hell of a butler. He’s looking after a young noble who has had their parents killed… and has struck a deal, an exchange, to secure the butler’s services and revenge. The trailer makes it clear they’re not going to put any mystery around why the butler is so good at every thing he turns his hand too. You know; cooking or battles.
What is surprising, I think, is that Warner Bros UK have picked up the title.
