Mongoose Publishing gets Conan and Lone Wolf
“Well, a few of our future projects are quickly becoming badly kept secrets after a number of scoops on various web sites, so I guess it is time for me to come clean!
Mongoose Publishing is proud to announce the acquisition of the Conan licence, to be released in January 2004 (I said it was for the future!). We have the entire vista of Conan and his world at our disposal for this game, including novels, films and comics, so it is going to be a real cracker. I really
cannot say too much about the game at this time, as it really is in the very earliest stages of development, but I heard a rumour that Ian Sturrock, the gentleman responsible for the Slaine RPG, will be the principle designer behind Conan.
If that were not enough, Mongoose Publishing is _very_ proud to have acquired the licence to (finally!) produce the Lone Wolf RPG, based on the gamebooks of Joe Dever. Fans of Magnamund have been waiting a very long time to get their hands on an RPG detailing their favourite setting and, in the third quarter of 2003, they will have their chance! Here at Mongoose, we are very keen fans of the gamebooks ourselves, having spent a lot of our own RPG learning curve on them, so we are dedicated to making this an absolute corker of an RPG. Mr Joe Dever had this to say with regards to the new game;
‘I am very pleased to be collaborating with Mongoose Publishing on this exciting Lone Wolf RPG project. I have every confidence that they will produce a superlative series of D20-based rule and sourcebooks. Not only will they delight the legions of loyal Lone Wolf fans the world over, they will also introduce a whole new generation of RPG’ers to the wonders of Magnamund and the Kai.’
The most observant among you will remember that, some time ago, I mentioned that Mongoose had acquired a major licence that a lot of gamers would be very interested in. Perversely, it is neither Conan nor Lone Wolf and, though it is due to be released in May next year, I still cannot mention it at this time, due to contractual reasons – very frustrating! However, I am hoping the gag will be removed very soon, so look for another nnouncement – I have a feeling you will like this one :) “

Contested Ground Studios Press Release
Contested Ground Studios regret to announce a further slight delay to the release of our flagship product line, the a/state RPG. The full version of the game is now scheduled for world-wide release during April of 2003. However, there’s also some highly positive news! Due to a change in our print provider and an increase in our budgets, a/state will now be released in a high-quality, durable hardback format.
And that’s not all…
As well as producing a series of substantial supplements for a/state, we’ll also be producing a series of guides to individual areas of The City. Featuring areas detailed in the main book, they will go into greater depth, with more NPCs, locations, maps, adventure nuggets and gaming suggestions. Each of these mini-supplements will be entitled ‘The Lostfinders Guide To…’ and the first of these is slated to be ‘The Lostfinders Guide To Mire End’, closely followed by guides to the Three Canals Metropolitan Area, Bankside and Fogwarren. With an expected retail price of £5.00 (around $7.00 US), these guides will represent exceptional value for money and an invaluable source of information for GMs and players alike.
Major supplements for a/state such as ‘Avenues & Alleyways’ (a guide to further areas of The City not detailed in the main book) will be produced in the same high quality hardback format as the main rulebook, ensuring durability and value for money.
In the meantime, Contested Ground Studios would like to thank all those who have offered and given their advice, help, criticism and feedback during what has been a long and oft delayed development process. One thing that we can assure everyone of is that when a/state appears in April, you won’t be disappointed! We aim to make a/state the best new RPG release of 2003 and have bold plans for the future.
