These photographs were taken by the London photographer Joel James Devlin. He creates original images and has studied the effect of moving lights through long exposure photographs. It’s that technique which creates the stunning photographs we can see here.
The “adventure trail” or “quest trail” is a fairly common device in computer RPGs. It’s a part of Fable, for example, as default and in Skyrim your character can learn the clairvoyance spell to access something similar. In almost every case we’re talking about an illuminated trail that runs across the ground.
Devlin’s photography reminds me of these quest trails and maybe the world would be a prettier place with them.
Just in case you’ve not seen a quest trail in a computer RPG here’s an example from Fable 3.
