Glue some gears on it and call it steampunk

Geek culture is going from strength to strength. This week I’ve seen quite a few bios and profiles in which people happily claim to be geek. I’ve seen debates as to whether everyone of these new geeks are geeky enough – or whether they’re just aspirational geeks.

In fact, geek culture is so strong now that some of our sub-cultures are being adopted. Steampunk is a classic example. Steampunk is cool. There’s an episode of Castle that’s heavy with Steampunk. Just as we have the rise of the aspirational geek so do we have to cope with aspirational steampunks.

Here’s a tip for you – just sticking some gears on it does not mean you can call it steampunk. Here’s some pointers!
