Crunchyroll launched its digital manga service in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and South Asia on Thursday 8th October 2026. The expansion introduces more than 250 localised English titles to the streaming platform across mobile and web apps, following an initial North American release in October 2025.

The launch arrives as British consumer interest in manga reaches unprecedented levels. Google Trends tracking shows search interest for “manga” in the United Kingdom hit an all-time five-year peak score of 100 in August 2026, up 50% from the prior five-year average. While Crunchyroll seeks to capitalise on this surge, the international rollout lands with notable gaps compared to its transatlantic counterpart.
Geographic Signals and Licensing
Crunchyroll President Rahul Purini confirmed the international rollout during closing remarks at the inaugural Crunchyroll Anime Future Forum in New York City. The announcement came alongside New York Comic Con preparations, ahead of the platform’s presence at MCM Comic Con London later this month.
The initial international catalogue incorporates series from J-Novel Club, Square Enix, and Yen Press. Confirmed launch titles include The Apothecary Diaries, Bocchi the Rock!, Delicious in Dungeon, Lycoris Recoil, and Konosuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!.
The initial offering reveals substantial geographic disparities:

Digital Infrastructure and Access Terms
The technical back-end relies on Tokyo-based developer Link-U Group, in which Crunchyroll holds an equity investment. The software powers cross-device synchronisation across iOS, Android, and web browsers, offering double-page spreads, offline cache storage, and direct jumps between manga chapters and corresponding anime episodes.
Crunchyroll bundles access into its existing Ultimate Fan tier or offers it as an optional subscription add-on. In India, Crunchyroll confirmed the service is exclusive to Ultimate Fan subscribers, not available as a standalone add-on.
The corporate launch statement omitted standalone pricing in British pounds, leaving existing UK Mega Fan and standard subscribers without verified monthly conversion rates. The release also bypassed attribution for individual mangaka, crediting corporate rights-holders while promoting titles created by writers and illustrators such as Natsu Hyuuga and Ryoko Kui.
Asa Suehira, Chief Content Officer at Crunchyroll, said in a statement:
For years, fans have asked us to bring manga closer to their Crunchyroll experience, and we are excited to make that a reality for more fans around the world. Anime and manga are deeply connected, and bringing them together gives fans more ways to discover the stories, characters and worlds they love. Expanding into new territories and languages is an important step toward making Crunchyroll an even more complete home for anime fans everywhere.”
Crunchyroll retired its earlier digital manga app in December 2023 after users complained about software stability. The company has not stated whether digital purchases made under the defunct application will integrate into the new Link-U Group system.
